Cookies and browser storage

In short
We set no cookies. We use no advertising, tracking or analytics scripts, no outside fonts and no social media buttons, so we show no cookie banner.
Your browser keeps a few small items while you use the site. They are needed for what you asked us to do, they stay in the browser tab you are using, and they are gone when you close the tab.
What your browser keeps
The names below are the names of the items in your browser's session storage. You can look at them in your browser's developer tools.

- The answers you type to the seven questions (never contract text, never an email address). Kept in session storage.
- Why
- So a reload, or a check that failed, does not make you type them again.
- How long
- This tab only: up to 24 hours, and removed when your result is ready, when you press Start over or when you close the tab.
- Name
- checkmyrental-token
- What it holds
- The secret link to your check. Kept in session storage.
- Why
- So you can come back from the payment page and move around your report.
- How long
- This tab only: until you close it.
- Name
- checkmyrental-account-token
- What it holds
- The link to a report you opened from your account page. Kept in session storage, never in the address bar.
- Why
- So the report opens without its link going into your browser history.
- How long
- This tab only: until you sign out or close it.
- Name

- What it holds
- Your sign-in: your email address and a sign-in code. Kept in session storage. The same name is used for a message between the tabs of this site, which stores nothing.
- Why
- The sign-in you asked for.

- This tab only: until you sign out or close it, after an hour without use, or after 12 hours at most.

- Cloudflare Turnstile
- What it holds
- One small item in Cloudflare's own storage area of your browser (not a cookie). Cloudflare does not publish what it holds or for how long.
- Why
- To tell people from bots on the page where you send your text and on the sign-in form. It runs only when the bot check is on.

- Set by Cloudflare.

- Stripe
- What it holds
- On Stripe's own payment page, Stripe's cookie rules apply.
- Why
- To pay. You are on Stripe's site then, not ours.

Why we do not ask for consent
Dutch law (article 11.7a of the Telecommunicatiewet) asks for your consent before a website stores or reads information on your device, with exceptions, among them for what is strictly needed for a service you asked for. What we keep is of that kind: it makes the check, the payment and the sign-in work. We do not use it for advertising, tracking or counting visitors.
We believe the same holds for the item of the bot check, which is only there to keep automated traffic away from the form where you send your text and from the sign-in form.
How we count visits
We count visits and steps ourselves, on our own server, without cookies and without names, email addresses or contract text. The privacy notice has the details.
Your choices
Closing the tab clears our items. You can also clear site data in your browser's settings. If you block these items, the check, the payment and the sign-in may stop working.
If this changes
If we ever add something that needs your consent, for example analytics that can identify you, we will ask first and update this page.
